Airdrop
Free tokens distributed to wallet addresses, usually to reward early users of a protocol.
AMM
Automated Market Maker — a protocol that prices assets with a formula instead of an order book.
APR vs APY
APR is the yearly rate without compounding; APY includes compounding and is always higher.
ATH
All-Time High — the highest price an asset has ever traded at.

Bear Market
A prolonged decline, conventionally 20% or more from recent highs.
Bull Market
A prolonged rise driven by new demand, easy credit and rising confidence.
Block Explorer
A site for viewing every transaction, wallet and contract on a blockchain.
Bridge
A protocol that moves assets from one blockchain to another.

Layer 1
A base blockchain that processes and secures its own transactions, like Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Layer 2
A network on top of an L1 that processes transactions cheaply and settles them back to it.
Liquidity Pool
A pool of funds locked in a smart contract that anyone can trade against.
Liquidity Mining
Extra token rewards paid to people who deposit into a liquidity pool.

Seed Phrase
The 12 or 24 words that can restore an entire wallet. It is the wallet.
Slippage
The gap between the price you expected and the price your trade actually filled at.
Smart Contract
Self-executing code deployed to a blockchain, with no off switch and no support line.
Stablecoin
A token pegged to a currency, usually the US dollar.
Staking
Locking tokens to help secure a network, earning rewards in return.
Sybil Attack
Creating many fake wallets to farm a single airdrop multiple times.
