Arbitrum Bets 100 Million ARB on Making USDG Its Default Dollar

Market Intel · Just now · Not financial advice

Arbitrum One now has a house stablecoin. Paxos-issued USDG is live on the network natively, and the DAO is being asked to put treasury money behind making it stick.

A dollar with strings attached

Roughly $4 billion of stablecoins already sit on Arbitrum, pricing trades and backing loans. Until now the ecosystem earned nothing from that float — the reserve income went to issuers instead. Joining the Global Dollar Network changes the math: as a partner, Arbitrum collects rewards on USDG held across its apps, paid in dollars and scaling with supply.

The integrations went live on day one rather than being promised. Fluid and Uniswap host trading liquidity, Morpho vaults curated by Gauntlet and Steakhouse handle yield, and GMX uses USDG as the deposit asset in its GLV vault.

The token is backed 1:1 by dollar reserves and issued under supervision in Singapore and the EU. Kraken handles deposits and withdrawals, while Stargate moves USDG between other chains.

100 million ARB on the line

Entropy Advisors, working with Offchain, the Arbitrum Foundation and OpCo, wants USDG growth treated as a core strategic initiative, with 100 million more ARB added to the DRIP incentive budget. DRIP still has about 65 million ARB unspent, so this is a top-up rather than a fresh start.

The pitch is a revenue line, not a marketing push. Entropy argues that capturing 15% to 20% of the $4 billion in stablecoins on Arbitrum One within a year would mean hundreds of millions of dollars in USDG supply. The DAO would also gain a dollar-denominated income stream that does not swing with transaction volume the way sequencer fees do. Voting runs offchain from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22, then onchain from Oct. 29 to Nov. 12.

What it means for you

If you farm on Arbitrum, the incentive taps are about to point at one asset. Expect boosted USDG pools and vaults across the apps above during the growth phase, with the DAO reinvesting most of its rewards into builders.

The bigger signal is structural. Arbitrum is buying a slice of stablecoin economics instead of letting its blockspace price someone else's dollar for free. USDG is now positioned as the default dollar its DeFi ecosystem is quoted in.
