WhiteBIT Integrates Lightning Network, BTC Faster and Cheaper to Move
WhiteBIT has integrated the Lightning Network for Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals, allowing customers to move BTC faster and at significantly lower cost than on the main Bitcoin blockchain.
The Lightning Network is a second-layer payment protocol that operates on top of Bitcoin. It enables near-instant transactions with minimal fees by routing payments through a network of payment channels rather than settling each transaction on the main chain.
For exchange users, the integration means Bitcoin deposits confirm in seconds rather than waiting for block confirmations, and withdrawal fees drop from dollars to fractions of a cent.
The move follows a broader industry trend. Major exchanges have been adding Lightning support as Bitcoin transaction fees have risen and users have become more cost-sensitive about moving funds.
Lightning also enables smaller transactions that would be uneconomical on the main chain. A five-dollar Bitcoin transfer that costs two dollars in on-chain fees becomes practical when the fee is effectively zero.
The integration is currently available for Bitcoin only. WhiteBIT has not announced plans to extend Lightning support to other assets.
