Evernorth Deploys $648M XRP Treasury With Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase, BitGo

Market Intel · Just now · Not financial advice

Evernorth just moved its 473 million XRP off the sidelines. The health-services giant, now trading as XRPN on Nasdaq after a deSPAC merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II, named Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo as the first counterparties to put that $648 million treasury to work.

From treasury to yield

The rollout starts in Q4 with institutional strategies — structured products, lending, and credit markets — before expanding into onchain DeFi on the XRP Ledger as those features go live. Hugo Jeandesboz, the new chief investment officer hired from Coinbase Asset Management, is building a risk framework he says would pass muster with a public-company board. No figure was given for how much XRP gets deployed in the first wave, but the program aims to generate earnings per share rather than accumulate tokens.

Why the XRP Ledger matters here

  • Native DEX and upcoming AMM hooks let institutions swap and provide liquidity without bridging tokens off-ledger.
  • Ripple's custody and liquidity stack gives a regulated on-ramp for large XRP movements.
  • Evernorth targets earnings-per-share growth, not just token accumulation.

The bigger picture

A former Cigna subsidiary running a nine-figure XRP treasury strategy is a signal: traditional finance balance sheets are starting to treat crypto as working capital, not speculation. If the lending and DeFi legs launch as planned, XRPL gets its first real institutional volume driver — and other corporate treasuries will be watching the XRPN playbook closely. The move also gives XRPL a bridge into the employer-benefits market, a sector that has largely stayed on the sidelines of crypto speculation.
