Blur Is Shutting Down Its Frontend on November 12 — and Blend Lending Stops the Same Day

Market Intel · Just now · Not financial advice

Blur is pulling the plug on its website next month. The once-dominant NFT marketplace is closing its frontend on November 12 — and its lending protocol is stopping new loans the same day.

What is actually shutting down

The blur.io frontend goes dark on November 12, 2026. The underlying marketplace protocol stays on-chain, and BLUR holders keep control of the fee switch — so trading does not stop, it just loses its main interface.

Blend, the protocol's NFT-backed lending market, stops matching new loans on the same date. Borrowers have until then to repay or let their positions default. After that, Blur says it will provide a tool so users can still withdraw their collateral from Blend.

The numbers tell the story

Blur's monthly trading volume peaked at around $1.43 billion in March 2023. Three years later, it had collapsed to under $7 million. The BLUR token dropped more than 20% on the day the shutdown was announced.

The ecosystem around it is not faring much better. Blast, the Ethereum layer-2 built by the same founder, saw its total value locked fall from about $2.2 billion at its peak to roughly $32 million today — a decline of more than 98%. Blur's own TVL dropped from about $200 million in early 2024 to $27 million.

Blast already blinked

Blast announced its own shutdown on October 2, saying operating costs had exceeded revenue and there was no "credible path" to sustainability. Users have until October 26 to withdraw assets through the normal interface; after that, they will need to interact directly with the bridge contracts.

The timing is not a coincidence. Blast was supposed to be the chain powering Blur's yield and rewards. When the chain died, a key reason to hold BLUR evaporated with it.

Why this matters

Blur was the marketplace that challenged OpenSea's dominance. Its closure signals that the NFT market boom of 2021–2023 is fully unwinding — not just in prices, but in infrastructure. If you have liquidity in Blend or tokens on Blast, deadlines are real and they are close. Check them now.
